Remarks from Leaders and Stakeholders

The celebration was marked by impactful messages from various leaders, each emphasizing the critical role of youth in the development of their communities.

Mr. Safari Thomas, RWC III Chairperson, emphasized the significance of digital skills as a tool for empowerment. He urged all partners to enhance their efforts in funding programs that focus on improving the livelihoods of youth within the settlement and host communities. “When our youth are digitally empowered,” he said, “they not only improve their own lives but also contribute significantly to the development of our communities. We must continue to support initiatives that provide these critical skills.”

He encouraged the youth to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them, particularly in education and skills development. “Our youth hold the key to the future,” he noted. “By engaging in skills development programs, you are not just building a career but also laying the foundation for a prosperous community. Avoid the pitfalls that can derail your progress, and focus on the opportunities that will lead you to success.”

Mr. Benson Natuhwera, OPM Representative, highlighted the need for greater integration of refugee youth into government programs. He expressed concern that International Youth Day is often overlooked in planning and urged stakeholders to give the day the attention it deserves. He also commended the partners who contributed to the success of the 2024 celebrations, stating, “Let this day be a reminder of the potential within our youth. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that they have the opportunities they need to thrive. The Office of the Prime Minister is committed to advocating for and sharing opportunities that can elevate the livelihoods of our youth.”

Mrs. Ruth, representing UNHCR, delivered a powerful message that highlighted the importance of digital skills as a gateway to broader opportunities. She stated, “Digital empowerment is not just about accessing technology; it’s about unlocking your potential, building resilience, and creating pathways to a sustainable future.
